MICHELIN TRUCK

More than a Century of Innovation

In the automotive boom of the early 1900s, Michelin became the first tyre manufacturer to recognise the specific needs of commercial vehicles. Manufacturing tyres with longer life and higher load carrying capabilities gave birth to the truck transportation industry. It was then that Michelin began an ongoing commitment to help commercial vehicles get more value from truck tyres.

For over a century Michelin has manufactured tyres to improve the safety, speed and running costs of trucks. Some Michelin innovations include:

1895

The first pneumatic tyre introduced comfort to driving with increased speeds, extended tyre life, and better protection for the undercarriage of vehicles.

1908

Twinned wheels were combined with the pneumatic tyre as a simple and effective system for carrying twice the load.

1995

The Energy tyre for trucks reduced fuel consumption by up to 6%.

1966

The Double X Wide Single replaced twinned trailer tyres. This tyre was one of the first low profile tyres increasing load capability.

2000

Michelin X-One tyre.

2006

Durable Technologies.

2017

RFID technologies added to Michelin truck tyres, enabling fleets to better manage their tyre assets.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Rapid Response is Michelin’s 24 hour, 7 days a week emergency tyre breakdown service, designed to help truck operators nationwide. The service is offered by authorised Michelin Truck and Bus independent tyre dealers nationwide, including the Advantage Tyres network.

Speak to your local Rapid Response provider about joining the programme. You can find their details in the Michelin Dealer Directory brochure.

Being sponsored on to the Michelin Rapid Response service is 100% free. Call out charges apply and vary depending on the time of day. There may also be a mileage fee. Please discuss these with your local Rapid Response provider.

All you have to do is call 0800 441 323. You will automatically be put through to the Michelin Rapid Response Call Centre. Tell the operator:

  • Your name
  • The company you drive for
  • Where you are
  • Your tyre problem
  • The size of tyre in question

The operator will then organise the closest Michelin Rapid Response Service provider to attend your call and notify you of the service providers estimated time of arrival.

Response times vary depending on your location however Michelin Rapid Response will always endeavour to get someone to your breakdown as promptly as possible. The time needed to get you back on the road depends on the complexity of the breakdown. The call centre operator will notify you of the local Michelin Rapid Response service provider’s estimated time of arrival. Customer example: A large national fleet that uses the Michelin Rapid Response service has had a total of 1,415 callouts and on average the time from the first call to the operator to the vehicle being mobile was 77.9 minutes.

Your call will be answered by the Michelin Rapid Response call centre. They will help organise service and follow the callout from start to finish. The closest Michelin Rapid Response service provider will come to service your tyre breakdown. This will either be an Advantage Tyres dealer or an authorised Michelin Truck and Bus Independent dealer.

No matter where you breakdown your charges will come from your ‘home dealer’ so your invoices and statements are easy to keep track of. For example, your regular local service provider (or home dealer) is Advantage Tyres Hamilton but one of your vehicles has a roadside tyre breakdown in Christchurch, you would ring the 0800 number who would arrange Advantage Tyres Christchurch to attend your callout. The work (e.g. charges like a callout fee, kilometres travelled, puncture repair, tyre fitting) will all be charged back through to you via your home dealer.

There is no minimum vehicle requirement to join the programme.

All types of heavy commercial vehicles are eligible; light truck, heavy truck and bus.

No problems, Michelin Rapid Response will get the vehicle moving again. To join the programme please speak to your authorised Michelin Truck dealer or PH 0800 732 264
