MICHELIN TRUCK
More than a Century of Innovation
In the automotive boom of the early 1900s, Michelin became the first tyre manufacturer to recognise the specific needs of commercial vehicles. Manufacturing tyres with longer life and higher load carrying capabilities gave birth to the truck transportation industry. It was then that Michelin began an ongoing commitment to help commercial vehicles get more value from truck tyres.
For over a century Michelin has manufactured tyres to improve the safety, speed and running costs of trucks. Some Michelin innovations include:
1895
The first pneumatic tyre introduced comfort to driving with increased speeds, extended tyre life, and better protection for the undercarriage of vehicles.
1908
Twinned wheels were combined with the pneumatic tyre as a simple and effective system for carrying twice the load.
1995
The Energy tyre for trucks reduced fuel consumption by up to 6%.
1966
The Double X Wide Single replaced twinned trailer tyres. This tyre was one of the first low profile tyres increasing load capability.
2000
Michelin X-One tyre.
2006
Durable Technologies.
2017
RFID technologies added to Michelin truck tyres, enabling fleets to better manage their tyre assets.
